CAREER COUNSELING / OUTPLACEMENT SERVICES

Do you feel stuck in your career? Are you returning to the work force after not having worked for a while? Maybe you are about to enter college or return to college and are unsure which major is right for you and will lead to a successful future. Perhaps you or your child is about to graduate high school and you don’t know what is the best career path to take. Or maybe you just want to advance in your current occupation. These are difficult decisions to make alone. Working with one of our professional career counselors can help.

June Hagen, Ph.D. will meet with you to thoroughly assess your abilities, interests, likes, dislikes and future goals. This is done through vocational testing, an in-depth interview, review of academic and vocational achievements, and an analysis of skills which can be used in other jobs. Considering these factors and labor market trends, recommendations for a vocational direction and an action plan are made. If you need further education or training, we will guide you to make the best choice, considering your current situation.

We often say that looking for a job is the hardest job you’ll ever have. We will make this process easier by preparing you to do your best in an interview. We can locate and screen job openings for you, including accessing the “hidden” labor market. Usually your resume and cover letter give a potential employer their first (and sometimes only) impression of you. You need to stand out from the sea of resumes an employer usually receives. We will make sure your first impression is a favorable one by creating a dynamic and professional resume and cover letter.

When you land the interview, we help you learn the skills you need to impress your potential employer that you are the best candidate for the job. We review the best responses to the most commonly asked questions and to difficult questions about your background. They say “Practice makes perfect” which is why we perform mock interviews with you. Then we review your performance and discuss how it can be improved. What do you do after the interview? We will guide you in making the appropriate follow-up contacts and feedback.
